A Peek at the Poulsens

Natalie was sent to the NICU a few hours after she was born, so our hospital stay was mostly spent in her room instead of ours. This time was much more relaxing - the nurses were helpful but got the vibe that we weren't clueless and were fine with being left alone as much as possible, which was great because who wants to be bugged every half hour by a new nurse? (The first night someone woke me up at 3 in the morning to draw my blood...I seriously almost kicked her I was so miffed.)  We feasted on the jell-o from the refreshments room and enjoyed the chocolate pudding and pizza from the cafeteria, supplementing with our own treats and snats (trolli eggs, orange milano cookies, jolly ranchers, goldfish, etc). We sent Stockton to the nursery at night between feedings so we were nice and rested, and Natsby came to the hospital a couple times each day to hang out with us. my boys! I'm not a psycho-all-natural-have-to-have-it-a-certain-way-follow-my-birth-plan-or-else! type of girl, but I did have expectations about how labor and delivery would go especially since I'd already been through it before. I had an awesome experience with Natalie - the induction, epidural, pushing, everything literally went completely perfectly and I enjoyed the entire twelve hours. not pleased The twelve hours we spent working on Stockton's L and D, however, went much differently. We didn't get to show up at the hospital until 5AM, ten hours after the original plan . By that point I was pretty ticked - we had been up all night "on call" waiting to hear from the hospital so naturally we didn't get much sleep, and the whole point of getting induced at night was so that we would most likely have the baby while Natalie was still asleep, meaning I could focus solely on labor instead of wondering how she was doing. Plan = thwarted, and I grumbled and grima...

He's HERE! (...where do we even begin? So much to write! I'll save the labor/delivery/hospital post for later and keep this post pretty basic for now so I don't get overwhelmed with all the details. There's so much to remember!)  What a stud! He is a great eater, and now at 10 days of life he is on a great every 2.5-3 hour feeding schedule. I wasn't able to have much of a routine for Natsby since I was in school and we were in complete flex mode, but now that I get to stay home I'm intent on having a good schedule for everyone's sake! We are also intent upon developing him to be a much better sleeper, especially at night, than Natalie was, and it's going well so far.  The only snag this whole time has been a couple gnarly gas/constipation incid...

......so, I got the call  an hour ago. I'm still recovering. I didn't cry or pout or whine or freak out. But my excitement turned to impatience and my motivation turned to idleness. Sighhhhh. The hospital is too busy to admit me at 7:30pm as planned, so I'm on an "on-call" status until 5am. Which means all my hopes and dreams are crushed. K it's not that bad, but I was/am pretty disappointed. I think one of the hardest parts of pregnancy for me is the waiting, and I thought that my waiting was over because I had this 7:30 deadline. Now that it's gone, I'm back to playing my least favorite waiting game and it's pretty discouraging. BUT - for all of my wallowing, we still will have a baby sometime tonight or tomorrow, and everyone is still healthy (if not as happy), and I'm still a week early anyway so I can't complain too much. My mom and I have wanted to do crafts for a while so we finally set aside a Saturday to craft away. We originally planned on doing some other things, but randomly I searched for "button crafts" and was enchanted with all the fun and juicy ideas! We chose a couple of our favorites and I went to Hobby Lobby with Natalie to do some pre-shopping. When I came home with the supplies Austin and I couldn't resist starting a project, so once Natalie was down we got to work and had a ball! So originally we just wanted to do a cool button tree, but when we didn't have the colors that looked like the picture we googled Austin had the great idea to do different trees for each season. So far we've done winter and fall, and probably won't venture into spring and summer until, well, spring and summer. My mom did a year-round autumn-themed tree because it matches the colors of her house. Natsby walked off with the buttons that will eventually spell "fall" ha...

I feel like I've been ready for this day for the past two weeks but now that it's here I keep thinking of things I haven't done yet and I'm sort of panicking! I'm sure it's just nerves though; every important thing is done and everything else can wait. The floor is swept, carpets vacuumed, bathrooms cleaned, kitchen stocked, and hopefully things are organized and tidy. I am not done with the nursery (I've always wanted to call the childrens' bedroom that but I feel a little silly for some reason) yet but I'm as done as I'm going to be for a while...these pictures aren't perfect but they sort of get the point across. we believe in mismatched...everything, I guess Natalie on the left, Stockton on the right...no space unused the dresser had to be scooted over because Natsby kept rummaging during her nap ...my sense of symmetry is very disrupted haha Yesterday Natalie helped me go shopping.
