Makae comes for the Fourth!

These pictures uploaded backwards, so I guess I'll work backwards haha......Makae had an extra day off for the Fourth of July so she drove from Lincoln to visit us! It was a short and sweet weekend together. We're super grateful she was willing to drive all that way to spend time with us! We're used to being together at least once a week when we lived in Lincoln, so it feels weird to go so long being apart.

We ate....an excessive amount of delicious food haha. Homemade cinnamon rolls were "breakfast" (and lunch, dinner, and dessert).

Makae and Jack took at least one nap together, lil cuties.

We celebrated Harry Potter Month together for the first time in a while! We made exploding bon bons (chocolate truffles with pop rocks), watched at least one of the movies, and decorated pizza with lightning shaped pepperoni.

On Sunday we had a little church service at home and then drove 45 minutes to see the Ft. Collins temple. It was spacious and broad and on beautiful landscaping, as usual, with a surprisingly blue roof at the top. The day was hot and Claire was furious that we dared to put shoes on her. Wanting to spend more time there but not sure what to do, we let the kids take turns "driving" on our laps around the parking lot. Stockton could have done that all day, and was actually quite good!

We watched fireworks from the elementary school fields...I'm not sure why I took this picture because it's facing the wrong direction and it was before the fireworks started. But, it did its job and reminded me of that event at least.

We made butterbeer with cream soda, butterscotch syrup, extract of butter, and whipped cream. Delicious!

The boys have a *problem* putting their clothes away. They leave dirty clothes on the floor, fling out many clean clothes while they are searching for outfits in their drawers, and don't put the clean piles of laundry away, frequently leaving their floor to look like this. It drives me craaaazy! The upside down laundry basket was a particularly nice touch on this day.

Stockton doesn't clean up his clothes but he does love wiping the table, benches, counter, and basically anything else I let him spray. He calls the spray his "chemicals" because I tell him that he can't spray when we're eating or cooking because we don't want the chemicals to get in our food.

The coveted toy machines at Albertson's (that then betrayed us....two of the machines ate the boys' quarters and Natalie didn't get the toy she wanted out of her machine.)

The timing was perfect for the release of Hamilton the musical on Disney+, so we were able to watch it with Makae. So good. Also, she brought us our most favorite queso in the entire world, Chef's Queso from Cactus in Lincoln. My mouth is watering looking at it!

Makae, Austin, Jack, and Natalie went on a hike at Vedauwoo on Saturday while Stockton, Claire and I went to Cahill Park. Everyone was tired in the afternoon and enjoyed some Curious George while in various states of resting. The hikers got to see a moose!

It was a fast weekend but so fun and happy to spend it with Makae. We got to see her again for Natalie's birthday/baptism, and she's coming for Thanksgiving, too. We are grateful for any time spent with family!
