Buddy Fun Day

One of the best parts of the school year is the field day at the end of the year. Holmes Elementary calls it "Buddy Fun Day" and our kids were feeling sad that it was cancelled, along with everything else, due to covid. So, my neighbor had the genius idea to put on our own buddy fun day! It was a huge success and the kids were so surprised. They always go on a "morning walk" or bike ride so after we sent them on their way we hurried and set up the tie dying station in the backyard, with Mason's help.

This is the first time either of our families has tie-dyed and it was really fun! Obviously messy haha. The kids took the leftover tie dye and dumped it on trees in our backyard, and the red one made it look like someone had died there (which the kids were excited about somehow haha).

Stacy's poor table afterwards!

Then we came to our front yard to do sack races! It was HILARIOUS. I highly recommend doing this with the kids in your life. Everyone laughs and it's actually a pretty good workout.

Austin and I even got in on the action...check out Austin's air!

Back to Stacy's backyard for pin the tail on the hedgehog (Holmes Elementary's mascot is a hedgehog). The kids who didn't cheat were really off, and the kids who peeked were spot on haha.

We did "stained plastic" painting...

And then water balloons! The kids were CACKLING with joy. It was so so so fun!

Then we did an egg toss which was hilarious to watch haha. Stockton especially got a kick out of it.

Claire came over after her nap and was curious but a little wary of the activities.

Stacy printed off certificates for our graduating kindergartners, Parker and Stockton, and we had a little graduation ceremony.

Then everyone had fun watching Mason shoot targets on the hill, and we had pizza for lunch.

That was the official "end" of Buddy Fun Day but of course the kids kept playing all day. Oh how we miss these neighbors! They ended up moving this summer as well, so S. 54th Street probably feels a lot quieter without our 8 kids running around together. : ( We love you, Eickmeiers! So grateful for our time together! I will never have as good of a neighbor as Stacy. It's September and we moved in May, so it's been almost 4 months, but my kids still talk about how they wish the Eickmeiers could still be our neighbors. Good friends are irreplaceable!
