We are enjoying only being 6 hours away from grandparents! In July I took the kids up to Salt Lake for a few days and it was really really fun. I miss having Austin there but I am glad we have the flexibility to go even if he is home at work. And we're grateful for his support and funding of the trip : )
Sleeping has gotten better when we travel, but Stockton still has trouble settling down and being still long enough to let himself fall asleep. He often needs some soothing scratchies to get him fully relaxed before he goes to bed.We picked up Hires burgers and had a little picnic at Liberty Park. We rode the electric scooters there and the kids were exploding with excitement haha. They were like, "what is this magic!?"
It's nice that Claire has lost a lot of her shyness, especially around family
Stockton levitating waiting for Sam to pass him on the sidewalk
Sam and Kristy came up from Orem to hang with us, which made it even more fun!
Claire kept leaving the blanket to find dirt and other adventures
We fed the ducks and geese on the other side of the park. Kristy brought canned corn to feed instead of bread since it's better for the birds. Now we know!
I don't remember why Stockton is wearing a daddy shirt at the park haha but it's cute
How many babies have played with this gate at Grammy Bee's house!? (including me!)
I love when Claire is all cozy in her carseat. I think it looks very sweet.
Jack was brushing the horse's mane
We got to have dinner with the Siggetys one night at Jocelyn's parents' amazing gym house. The kids LOVED running around playing (Stockton especially loved the Pacman game upstairs) and I loved just chatting in the kitchen area. It is always fun to see them when we come to Utah!
We have 7 kids between us now....8 years ago when we met we only had 1 each!
We went on this great, short hike up Cottonwood Canyon to the "secret waterfall." PopPop offered to stay home with an uncooperative Stockton, so it was my mom, me, and the other 3 kids. We loved exploring and playing in the water.
meanwhile Stockton was enjoying the noisemaking clock at home...
Claire could have stayed there alllll day. Rocks, river, and dirt?! Her dream combination.
I think Utah might have the prettiest rivers...
Natalie the model
It was an awesome hike! We will definitely be back. I think Stockton would love it if he wouldn't be so stubborn.
We also went to teh zoo, I think earlier that morning before the hike. Hogle Zoo is so fun for adults and kids alike! Because of Covid, you have to reserve your time slot, so there were very few people there and it was really nice.
The train is always a huge hit. Mimi and PopPop are the best zoo companions because they let us do all the fun stuff, twice!
Jack was THRILLED to get to see real river otters! The first time we passed this exhibit they weren't swimming around anywhere, but when we came back Jack immediately spotted them.
And Stockton got to see a HUGE polar bear lounging in the water! My mom assigns her grandchildren animals when they are babies that they kind of resemble or act like and Stockton is a polar bear and Jack is an otter. Natalie is a robin and Claire is a duckling, but we didn't see those animals at the zoo.
Everything is more fun with PopPop : )
The zookeeper told us that lions sleep for up to 21 hours a day. I would like to be a lion.
The giraffe was so close to us!
Train Part 2!
And then home for some cozies and a movie. Mimi always makes things cozy and fun.
The boys played a fierce game of foosball
The long burgundy mirrored hallway with chandeliers and the looming door at the end...we grew up coming to Grammy Bee's house so we're used to the decor but I often wonder what someone new would think
Sweet sisters on Sherwood Drive...this trip was right after Claire started walking
Jack and Natalie always sleep on the air mattresses in the basement side hallway. They love it! There are extra rooms where they could sleep, but we like having them close to us downstairs.
Reading is a STAPLE at Grammy Bee's (and Mimi's) house
the remnants of our Ruby Snap haul....Ruby Snap is a cookie shop in Salt Lake City that is AMAZING. They make these incredible moist cake like cookies that are all sorts of flavors. My favorites are horchata and especially lemon blueberry chia. SO GOOD. Horchata is the cookie in the top left.
One fun part of our trip was going to Bountiful to see Kenz, Kevin, and Katara. We played at a school park and enjoyed hanging out for a little bit. It's nice that our families live in similar geographic locations.
Claire became very interested in Mint Julep this trip. She walked around looking for all of the cups and trying to get the last drops out of all of them.
One of the days we headed to the lake! It was a scorching day and the beach was pretty packed but we found a great spot and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We brought little caesars pizza but it hardly got eaten because everyone was too busy playing!
Stockton had to poop so unfortunately that dampened his experience, but he enjoyed relaxing in teh chairs with Grammy Bee and my sun hat. (He pooped later that night, thankfully.)
Give this girl some water, utensils, and sand or dirt or rocks and she is set for hours
PopPop with some grandchildren!
playing with the log
Super fun day! This is at Pineview Reservoir near Ogden.
I started learning a little bit of this Beethoven Sonata....it's completely delightful and will be the first thing I polish once we move and buy a piano again!
Natalie wanted to take a selfie so she could see what her giraffe birthstone necklace looked like haha
Early morning snugs from my Claire
On the way home we took an extended break in Green River and found this awesome park where we played and ate lunch. There were randomly mosquitoes everywhere, but it felt good to stretch our legs.
Super fun trip! Always nice to be reunited with Daddy and to sleep in our own beds, but I love visiting my parents and giving my children that crucial and special family time. Always worth it!
